African Dance Workshop

Seattle Civic Dance TheatreJoin us and learn basic West African dance with Afua Kouyate and drummer Aboubacar ‘Boka” Kouyate and explore new techniques in movement and expression. This all levels class is a great way to expand your skills and explore a new genre. If there is enough early interest from younger dancers we will split this class into two sessions.

Afua Kouyaté, Dancer and Management, is one of Seattle’s treasures, renowned for building cultural pathways for youth and families in African culture. Originated from a big Griot family, “TheKouyates” of Guinea, West Africa. This family has a big obligation for everyone. A big story of the Manding cultures of West Africa.

Husband, Aboubacar is an energetic composer and is currently creating music daily. He is a versatile artist who playsBalafone, African traditional drums; djemebeand doundoun), guitar, piano, trap drums and he is a professional singer.

Kouyaté Arts is a West African Music, Song And Dance Performance Company, Directed by husband and wife duo Boka and Afua Kouyaté.

The sights and the sounds of the Kouyaté Arts is an exotic blend of celebration and awareness. Live music,song and dance provides a festive and dynamic style of West African culture. All presentations are suitable for the entire family. Everyone can relate to a happy experience!
